The Rubus flora of the Iberian Peninsula has hitherto scarcely been explored. Previous authors often erroneously identified the brambles occurring here with species described from Central Europe. Besides, the descriptions published by some of them seem to refer mostly to singular or local morphotypes (spontaneous hybrids and their derivatives). These phenomena are very common within the sexual and apomict European bramble flora and have no systematic value. The elucidation of the Rubus species which in fact occur is a task still left to the future.
